4 Splurges That Will Make You Feel Wonderful on the Big Day

Monday, November 26th, 2018

If you are like every bride out there (at least in some respects), you want to make sure you feel splendid on your wedding day. Sure, the dress will make up for a large part of that, and the accessories will surely add to the feeling.

Before all that though, there are small things you will want to do for yourself and for your body – splurges that will prep your entire being for what’s meant to be one of the most fabulous days of your life.

• Professional manicure. This is more than a splurge – it’s a must, especially given that everyone will want to see that stunning ring on your finger. Get a fancy manicure done as soon as you get engaged and it will already put you into a fantastic mood – it’s one of the all-time favorites when it comes to pampering!
• Microblading. Eyebrows are more than important for your look – and if you want the perfect pair on your wedding day, you should definitely consider investing in microblading. If you decide to go for it, keep in mind that you should undergo the process way before your wedding – the healing takes some time, but the great news is that your eyebrows will continue to look flawless for the next 1-3 years.
• Hair treatment. While your regular hair routine might have been working really well until now, getting a professional, in-depth hair treatment might be the best idea before your wedding. From highlights to a complete change in color and various heat processes for the ideal hairdo, your hair will go through a lot to look perfect on the Big Day. Prep it for what’s to come with a truly effective salon treatment!
• Microdermabrasion. If you want your skin to look flawlessly glowing on your wedding day, you should also consider a microdermabrasion treatment. A regular at-home exfoliating routine could work very well, but since this is an important event, you might want to go beyond that – and microdermabrasion is the best there is!

These 4 Bridal Trends of 2019 Are Amazing!

Thursday, November 8th, 2018

Wedding trends aren’t “there” to be blindly followed. They exist to provide brides with the inspiration they need to create a unique wedding – an event infused with their personality, with their style, and with their love stories.
At the end of the day, you can choose to follow or not follow a wedding trend – but taking a look at it is worth it even if just for the sake of “finding new ideas”.

What are some of the more interesting wedding trends for 2019? We’ve gathered some emerging trends below – so read on and find out more.

• Less is more. This has always been true, but in 2019, it seems that the wedding fashion world is returning to its basics, to a simple world of embroidery-free wedding gowns that aren’t over the top in any way. They’re just pure elegance. Of course, detailed wedding dresses will still be majorly present – but aside from them, minimalist brides will find more and more options signed by the world’s most reputable designers.

• Pockets, pockets. Who doesn’t love a dress with pockets? So practical and chic, so unique and modern at the same time! In 2019, more wedding gowns will come with pockets – not necessarily for you to carry around the entirety of your bridal SOS kit, but just enough for you to carry your smartphone (and snap a couple of selfies with your besties).

• Bare makeup is back. With Meghan Markle featuring the most amazing barely-there makeup on her (royal) wedding day, it was a clear sign that bridal makeup is taking a turn for simplicity too. If you don’t want to go over the top with your makeup, 2019’s trends are your chance. Invest in quality skincare and keep your makeup to a minimum for a stunning, naturally beautiful bridal look. Everyone will love it!

• Red lips aren’t gone. Not at all! If you want a bit more glamour into your wedding makeup, red lipstick will be huge in 2019. The key lies in picking a shade that suits your particular complexion – something that will truly make you shine!

Looking for discounted wedding accessories? Adorn offers you the option to buy stunning pieces on reduced prices – or just to rent them for a very small fraction of their original price. Come visit our site and take a look around – we guarantee you will be charmed!

4 Things You Can Do With Your Wedding Attire After the Big Day

Tuesday, November 6th, 2018

Photos by Sweet Ice Cream Photography and Mike&Noemi Gonzalez on Unsplash.

As a bride, you want to look nothing less than absolutely flawless on your wedding day. You want to shine, you want to be the most amazing woman in the room (and on a three-state radius), you want this to be your BIG day in every way there is.

Of course, you will do everything in your power to make sure you feel absolutely amazing on your wedding day – and that’s absolutely natural and fine.

What do you do after the wedding day? What happens with your dress, jewelry, and accessories?

Well, we have some tips for you – so read on and find out more.

  • Keep the dress as a souvenir. Many brides decide to keep their wedding dress as a souvenir (and a lot of them think that maybe, one day, their own daughters will want to use their dresses for their own wedding day). If you decide to do this, our advice is to make sure you take it to a professional preservationist – it will help you maintain your gown’s beauty intact regardless of how long you want to keep it.
  • Donate it or give it away. If you want your wedding dress to serve a meaningful purpose once the Big Day is done, you can always donate it or give it to a friend who cannot afford buying her own gown. This gesture will bring so much happiness in someone’s life and it will make YOU feel so great about it too! Many women would “kill” to have a dress like yours – so why not make their wedding dreams come true just as yours came true on the Big Day too?
  • Sell your wedding dress. If you want to recover part of the money you invested in your wedding gown, you can always sell it as well. There are specialized boutiques that take in gently used wedding dresses and sell them further for lower prices. A bride on a lower budget will be SO happy to wear a less expensive, but absolutely stunning dress at her wedding!

You can sell your wedding jewelry and accessories too! Here at Adorn, we accept slightly used wedding day accessories for sale, so if you have something, do not hesitate to contact us as soon as possible. We guarantee you will never regret it!

4 Amazing Ways to Help You Save Money on Your Wedding Look

Monday, November 5th, 2018

As a bride, you want to look nothing less than downright spectacular as you walk down the aisle and celebrate your Big Day. However, looking picture-perfect frequently comes with a pretty hefty price. From the wedding gown itself to the shoes, hair, and even makeup, everything about your bridal look will most likely cost quite a lot.

What is there to do? What are some of the best ways to save some money on your wedding look without compromising on how a luxurious bridal look will make you feel?

We have some tips for you – so read on and find out more.

  • Hunt for a discount wedding gown. For instance, sample sizes are usually sold on heavy discounts – but even if you don’t belong to that particular sizing range, you can still find a lot of wedding dresses on discount. It’s important to follow the price reduction patterns practiced by the biggest bridal boutiques in your area. Furthermore, having all your money ready to make a payment can also save you money (e.g. you might get up to 10-20% off just for paying in advance, during special events held by the bridal boutiques).
  • Sell your wedding dress. Not particularly keen on keeping the wedding gown as a memory of the Big Day? Sell it as a gently used wedding gown – you might not be able to get back its entire price, but you will recover a pretty large sum of money this way.
  • Do your own hair and makeup. If you’re daring enough and if you know you’re crafty, why not create your own bridal hairstyle and makeup? Not only will you save a lot of money on the specialists you would have to hire otherwise, but you will also get the chance to keep a lot of products (both for your hair and for your makeup). With a bit of training and some YouTube videos, you can pull off something really nice!
  • Rent your wedding jewelry. Why pay the full price for a pair of diamond earrings you won’t be wearing anytime soon? Renting is a more financially-savvy option – and it will allow you to pick whatever pieces of jewelry suit you and your style most, without feeling restricted by a limited budget!

Looking for a place that allows brides to rent their wedding day jewelry? Contact Adorn right now and come check out what we offer – we guarantee you will LOVE it in our store!

Wedding Registry Etiquette 101

Friday, June 25th, 2010

CBR002416When it comes to doling out wedding advice I always suggest the “do whatever makes you happy” philosophy. However, I tend to think one of the only area where this does not apply is with your wedding registry. Why? Well, simply put your registry sets the tone for your whole wedding. You DO NOT want that to be a negative tone in any capacity.

Think I’m overreacting? Take a step back from the wedding your currently planning and start thinking back to those weddings of yesteryear. Remember when your insufferable cousin put nothing but Mauviel Cooper Cookware on her registry ($500 for a potato steamer…I don’t think so)? So you got her the darn steamer and when you went to the wedding you saw she cut corners on everything! How furious were you? Or how about the time your friend invited you to her long distance wedding and then 1 month beforehand, after you bought the plane tickets, got married in secret for no good reason (a.k.a. surprise baby, going to war, etc)?! THEN had the NERVE to send out a registry request!?

Lets face it, registry snaffo’s stick out in people minds so here are a few rules to follow:

1) Know Your Audience

I know, I mention this rule all the time but it most definetly applies to your registry. To keep it short: if your friends and family are rich, don’t feel bad abut adding a few expensive items onto your list. If your friends and family are not well off,  refrain from adding anything over $500. If people want to give you a huge gift, they will give you money. Asking for a huge gift is just tacky.

2) Keep the price range in line with your reception

Are you spending $300 a plate? Well maybe your registry will be a little more on the expensive side (but dont go crazy)? If you’re spending $50 a plate then your items should semi reflect this. It doesnt mean you should only ask for a blender, handtowels, and chip clips (a personal pet peeve of mine – I hate when the only thing left on a registry is chip clips and plastic bowls), but dont try to ’scam’ your friends and family and don’t fool yourself into thinking you’re going to make money off of your wedding either….seriously… it’s not going to happen.

3) If you didn’t invite someone to your wedding, don’t send them your registry

This might seem like a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised. I’ve received registry envelopes before without being invited to a wedding. Lame times infinity.

Hope these tips help you and if you have any questions…ALWAYS FEEL FREE TO ASK ME!

The Best Wedding Day Primer…Ever

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

Are you debating doing your own makeup for your wedding? Wondering what you’ll need to make you and your bridesmaids look gorgeous on your wedding day? Well have we got a GREAT new product for you: PurpleLabs new Pearlesque Show Silicone Free Primer.

First a Bit About Primers:
Makeup primers are often used by cosmetic professionals to make your skin look poreless, keep it moisturized, and keep your makeup on all day (very important for a wedding!!). This can be used with our without makeup, but if using with makeup you need to apply your primer first. Like all other products, there are many different kinds of primers and choosing the right now for you can be a bit of a task. Here’s something every gal should know about silicone based products. Although they do prevent shine, they have been known to cause breakouts since the silicone coats your skin and makes it occlusive (prevents penetration by trapping everything in – even the bad stuff). Break outs before your wedding are NOT COOL, so we thank cosmetic companys’ like PurpleLab for giving us other fabulous options!

PurpleLabPrimerNow The Main Event:
Pearlesque Show is a silicone free primer with that goes on super smooth. It minimizes your pores, hydrates your skin, AND evens your skin tone but that’s not all: its luxurious to the max. Evoking old Hollywood Starlet style, PurpleLab infused their new product with crushed pearls that create an instant youthful glow. What else is in it you ask? An array of mother nature’s gifts to the world such as kiwi, honey, grapeseed oil, lavender, aloe, and ginkgo biloba. This product will help keep that that expensive makeup you bought on your beautiful face all day.

So get buy it off of HSN TODAY!!  Pearlesque Show is usually the low price of $27.50, but for today and tomorrow: its $22.50!! Woo Hoo!

This Cake Costs A lot of Dough

Monday, April 5th, 2010

Wedding cakes tend to run the gamut from a DIY cake made by mom to a ridiculously large life-size portrait of the bride.  Although no two brides can agree on what the best wedding cake would be – everyone knows it’s an important part of the ceremony.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when while you’re ordering

Cakes Need to Be Transported:

Unless you’re a character on either Bewitched or Charmed, odds are you can’t make objects appear and reappear without having someone lift and move them.  Make sure you run through the transportation with your baker to make sure everyone’s on the same page about boxing, packing materials, and reception directions.  Professionals are usually really good about making this process work flawlessly. However, if your new mother-in-law decides to make the cake herself you should ask her to make it slightly smaller and designate at least 2 friends to help her with the transportation…the last thing you need is to arrive at the reception hall with a cake covered m-i-l. Not good, not good at all…

When Elaborate Goes Awry:

I have no words...

I have no words...

Please heed this warning: when it comes to wedding cakes STAY SIMPLE. Unless you’ve got boatloads of money on the best baker in your state – keep it simple. Complex cakes can sometimes go awry and totally put a damper on your special day. For example take the cake to the left. The idea was beautiful: dolphins playing on a cake. But the execution leaves a little something to be desired. Instead of being playful and happy, it looks like there’s been a massacre in Flippers family and everyone was invited to witness the aftermath.

Your cake should be something you both really love:  tasty, elegant, and beautiful. Don’t fuss, or freak out over it, or feel the need to go overboard. Sometimes a simple cake tastes the best and looks the prettiest.

Remember Your Guests:

You might want to have this elaborate cake but remember, your guests just want something delicious. It is possible to have both but keep in mind, it takes a very talented baker to do this. This might be obvious to some but do a tasting at the bakers with your future hubs. If they serve other baked goods, buy a few. Get one of their little cakes to bring to your mothers or his mothers or someones mothers. It’ll give you a good idea about the bakers normal level of product deliciousness (is that a real phrase? I don’t think so)

5 Steps to Your Perfect Favor

Monday, February 15th, 2010

Follow these steps to find the perfect favor for your event:

Step 1: All potential favors should fall into one of three categories. They should be either a Practical Keepsake, Favor Boxes/Containers, or they should be Edible. Rule out trinkets or dust collectors, and that tulle wrapped candy? So out!

Step 2: Does it or can it match your theme or at least your color scheme? Keeping everything flowing together will really make a difference in the overall effect. If the favor itself is not a perfect match you can still make it flow with colored ribbon, small gift bags, and labels/tags. It does not have to match immediately it just has to have the ability to match.

Step 3: Personalize It! It may cost a little extra (although some favors include personalization in their pricing) but it will be well worth it. The only exception to this is something that looks cheap. Don’t print white mailing labels with your name and date on them. The best ways to personalize cost effectively is to order tags, labels, or ribbon.

Step 4: Imagine your guests receiving the item. Are the guests at the right age to use and appreciate them? If you are throwing a girls night out for your weight loss group you may not want to get them cupcake mix. Or if the majority of your guest are traveling in don’t burden them with an edible favor that may not travel well. Also, consider getting the kids at the event a different favor than the adults.

Step 5: Order a sample. This is especially true for any large event such as a wedding or bat/bar mitzvah. Even if you have to order 12 favor boxes it is better that you know exactly what you are ordering before receiving 500 of them. Remember, favors are designed to be cost effective but that is not the same as cheap. Examples Practical Keepsakes: Pizza Cutter, Bookmarks, Photo Album, Coasters, etc. Edible Favors: Gourmet Oreos, Fortune Cookies, Cupcake Mix, etc. Favor Boxes/Containers: Personalized Glass Jars, Sweet Shoppe Boxes, Favor Tins Note: If you are going to go with an edible favor make sure it is incredibly delish. The memories of your wedding and edible favors may be forever linked.
