Blog-v2-jewelry-rental

Some brides still adhere to the old adage “something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue” for good luck. For brides bogged down with other, more important, wedding planning details, coming up with each of the “somethings” can prove somewhat elusive. We’re about to change that.

Starting today, Adorn Brides is kicking off our Something Borrowed Sweepstakes, and giving away a $25 gift card to twenty lucky winners to rent jewelry from Adorn for their wedding day. It’s the ultimate “something borrowed” you could find – fine diamond jewelry for you to “borrow” at an affordable price, with a gift card to boot!

We’re also partnering with Time Warner to celebrate the August 16th release of the hit movie “Something Borrowed” on DVD and Download to Own, and giving away a DVD to our winners as well. The movie, starring Kate Hudson and Ginnifer Goodwin, is the perfect bridesmaid get together movie – what bride can’t use a break from wedding planning stress to relax with her girls?

Winners will be chosen at random. Click here to enter the Something Borrowed Sweepstakes contest.

Be sure to visit us on Facebook and share with other brides what you’re using for your something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. There are a lot of great ideas out there and we love to hear them!

LOL – All the Way to the Bank

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

Today’s brides are fortunate that so many great online resources exist to help a bride plan her wedding -and plan her wedding on a budget, which is what we’re all about. We came across another great article about renting options for brides, this one at http://www.bridefinds.com/2011/5-things-you-didnt-know-you-could-rent-for-your-wedding-cakes-diamonds-veils-more/. It appears that more brides are catching on – and laughing all the way to the bank.

Bride Finds - Got the ring? Now get the rest.

It’s only been recently that brides have as many options as they do for renting wedding related items, rather than buying. In the past, the options for brides to rent included renting the reception hall, renting the tables and chairs, and renting the table linens. As the green movement evolved, peoples’ perceptions changed. It’s now commonplace to consider whether an item can be used by someone else.

Of course, the other big factor that’s contributed to the popularity of the rental industry has been the economy (recessions tend to do that). For brides, that means more options to save. Today’s brides can rent their wedding dress, rent their bridesmaid dresses, and rent jewelry – real, top quality, fine diamond jewelry that wasn’t even an option for brides to purchase in the past, or present, because of the high cost of diamond jewelry.

Our advice? Consider all your renting options, you’d be doing your wedding budget a favor. Just don’t rent the husband – and try not to meet him on a reality show.

Fancy Mamas

Moms are getting into the game!  We’ve seen an uptick in the number of mothers of the bride who are turning to Adorn for their daughter’s big day.

Donning a conservative, yet elegant dress, these moms are adding a bit of sparkle and sophistication by incorporating classic diamond jewelry into their look. Coincidentally, with all the great colors out there for mother of the brides dresses these days, moms are still turning to the classics – black, navy. Perhaps they’re afraid of clashing with the wedding colors or bridesmaid dresses – or perhaps they’re just great moms being cautious about upstaging the bride. :)

Whatever their reason, we’re discovering these moms have great taste and style. A popular option for mothers of the bride looking to coordinate with their navy dress is our stunning Beckford necklace. Retailing for $45,000, this beautiful, and simply gorgeous, blue sapphire and diamond necklace adds just the right touch of classic glamour and rents for $990.

For mothers who have opted to go with the classic black dress, our Elizabeth pearl and diamond necklace has been a great choice. We hate to brag, but it’s quite simply the most beautiful pearl necklace we’ve seen! Obviously, it also coordinates well with our Hartley earrings, a large pearl drop and diamond rosettes at the post. We consider the Elizabeth necklace a steal for a $200 rental; the coordinating earrings go for $120.

Beach Wedding Beauty

Thursday, May 19th, 2011

Is there anything more magical than a beach wedding?  It would be hard to convince us otherwise after seeing the wedding photos of Adorn Brides customer Sarah C., courtesy of New Ground Photography.

Dress-jewelry-rental

With gorgeous weather, a backdrop of turquoise ocean water, and bright, sunny, blue skies, Sarah and Tony were wed on the beach at Marco Island, Florida last month.  It’s hard to beat the beauty and magic of nature– a bouquet of bright, multi-colored assorted flowers helped to set the mood with a tropical, cheery feel. The vibrant colors surrounding her white wedding gown, you can almost feel the ocean breeze, excitement, and love in the air.

For this once in a lifetime moment, both Sarah and her mother turned to Adorn to rent jewelry and accessorize their look for this special occasion. Adorned with our Lockwood earrings and Chadwick bracelet, Sarah’s sophisticated, romantic style flowed effortlessly as she wore a beautiful, fitted gown laced up the back with embroidered flower shoulder straps. Her mother, Joanne, wore the Miles earrings and Silverwin bracelet, which sparkled against her deep blue, strapless dress.

We love hearing from our brides after the wedding and sharing their beautiful photos as inspiration for women still in the planning stages for their own wedding. Thank you to this great mother and daughter team for their kind words which follow, and for letting us be a part of that special day for their family.

“Thank you for making Sarah shine on her wedding day.  I also loved my earrings and bracelet as well. If I need to use your company again it will be with great pleasure- wish I had another special occasion.” – Joanne and Sarah

Get Out the Vote and Adorn Yourself at Our Expense

Friday, May 13th, 2011

Blog-Adorn-Jewelry-Rental-Wedding-Bridal-contest

It’s like an ancient ritual in your womanhood journey – you served as the loyal friend for years… and then one day, you’re asked to wear the bridesmaid dress.  Talk to any woman and she could probably share a story or two about having served as a bridesmaid in a friend’s wedding.  Stories abound of dresses that were horribly colored (“Is that a rainbow colored dress?”) or ill fitting.  Fortunately, bridesmaid dresses have evolved, but the bridesmaid experience remains a colorful one, filled with many memorable moments. (Run across a bachelorette party in progress before?)

To celebrate the relationship between a bride and her bridesmaids, we’re having a bridesmaid photo contest (because you can’t share a photo of yourself in an ugly bridesmaid dress with too many people). The photo can be a picture of the best or worst bridesmaid dress you once wore.

Enter the contest here on our website, post your photo and a comment or two, and then get out the vote. Have your friends vote, have your family vote, you can even have your dentist vote if you have to.  If you’re the person with the most votes, you’ll win a FREE diamond jewelry set rental for your wedding day, a $400 value!  Look glamorous on your wedding day without another wedding day expense.

Contest ends June 30, 2011. Good luck!

If you have already placed an order or plan to before the contest ends, you will be given a refund for your order if you are selected as the winner.

Back to Bridal Basics

Monday, April 18th, 2011

One of the cable channels was airing the movie “Bride Wars” this weekend.  The 2009 comedy starred Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway as best friends who find themselves competing for the same wedding venue, on the same date, after becoming engaged at the same time.  The movie is forgettable, but for brides-to-be it provides a good reminder to take stock of what your wedding day should be about.

Bride Wars

Bride Wars

Too often, future brides get so caught up in the planning of their wedding, that their behavior becomes alienating, unreasonable requests are made, and compromise is often overlooked. It’s not unusual for relationships with friends and family to become stressed, and feelings easily get hurt during this time. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

Your wedding day is about more than the obvious – marrying the one you love, uniting as a couple in marriage, and the joining of two families.  For most brides, it’s also the only time that you will have gathered in one place so many people that mean so much to you and your soon- to-be spouse. As such, when you look back on that day, it’s not the colors you chose, the cake you selected, or the flowers you picked (as nice as they all may be) that will hold the meaning on that day. It will be the people that were there for you and your fiancé at that special moment in your life – the grandparents who were able to join you, the father who walked you down the aisle, the lifelong friends who flew to be by your side. And they want your day to be perfect for you.

So, treat them all with respect. Don’t make demanding requests. Humble yourself, if only for a second, to listen, if someone only wants their opinion to be heard. Be flexible. Keep an open mind.  And, by all means, plan your dream wedding to your dream guy. Order your favorite flowers, put on that gorgeous wedding dress, treat yourself to real diamonds to look stunning on your big day.  Just remember, that when it’s all said and done, that classy wedding you’ve always dreamed about begins with how you’ve treated people along the way.

Buy into the idea that glamour can be borrowed

If you’re new to the concept of jewelry rental and checking us out for the first time, be sure to read this well written article in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.  It’s a great overview of the wedding rental industry and the direction it’s headed, and includes some great links for brides.  Consider it a great resource for informing brides how they can upgrade their wedding and downgrade the cost of it all.

JoAnne Klimovich Harrop writes:

There is a way to get luxury and excess in your life for that one special night.

Consider renting that dream designer gown, handbag, accessory or pair of shoes without experiencing the sticker shock of a high-end fashion investment. A number of businesses allow you to unleash your inner celebrity while maintaining fiscal responsibility.

“It works like Netflix for movies,” says Nadine Zaun, co-founder and chief stylist for www.Adorn.com, an online store that rents expensive jewelry. “We rent a lot of jewelry for weddings and love to be able to help a woman add beautiful jewelry to such an important day of her life. And we can also help her get diamonds for a fraction of retail.”

Once Upon A Time

Monday, February 28th, 2011

Sometimes we come across a wedding that is so beautiful, we feel the need to share it with everyone.  In Houston, Texas, under a canopy of soft candle light, Harry and Laurie Klein had such a wedding.

Bringing the Hollywood glamour theme to life, the Magnolia Hotel was decorated with soft feathers and sparkling crystals.  Laurie was picture perfect in her three (yes three!) wedding dresses.  She paired the Lockwood earrings with the Chadwick bracelet to add that red carpet feel.   Like most new husbands, Harry couldn’t keep his eyes off his starlet bride.

Amid a gauntlet of guests waving sparklers, Laurie and Harry rushed to their awaiting white Rolls Royce to take them to their Happily Ever After.

Laurie loved planning her wedding so much, that she has started her own wedding planning business in Houston call Prim and Posh Events.  You can contact her at primandposh@aol.com.

Congratulations Laurie and Harry and thanks for sharing your wedding video with us!
