A Bride’s Gift to Mom

Friday, May 6th, 2011

Moms play an important role in their children’s lives, no doubt about it, but when the mother is the mother of a bride, the relationship between mother and daughter is even more special.

Many brides planning their wedding quickly learn what a delicate landmine they must navigate as they try to balance making decisions for their wedding while keeping good ole’ Mom happy. Yes, there are horror stories of epic battles between brides and their mothers, some of which would make for an interesting documentary on the History channel. Sometimes, the bride is being unreasonable, other times, Mom is acting nuts (Moms Gone Wild video?).

But, truth be told, other than a few possible disagreements here and there, most brides and their mothers enjoy a special experience throughout the course of wedding planning and the wedding itself. Because of that, Adorn Brides would like to offer some suggestions for brides in ways to honor mom this Mother’s Day.

Plan a weekend getaway. Regardless of where you are in the planning process, Mom is bound to cherish any alone time with her daughter before the big day. With a whole weekend together, you’ll have time to get your Mom’s thoughts on your wedding plans and make her feel like she was involved in the decision making process, an important detail that will strengthen your relationship throughout your planning.

Shop with Mom . You aren’t the only one who has had dreams for your wedding day, Mom has dreamed of this day since you were born.  What better gift for Mother’s Day than to shop together for your wedding dress? You can always shop more later, if need be. Be sure to check out our bridal jewelry to complete your look.

Shop for Mom.   Your wedding day is a big day for Mom too. Spend your time together shopping for what Mom will need to wear for your wedding. Did we mention we rent jewelry for brides and their party?

Lunch with Mom.  With a reception to plan and a caterer that’s needed, take Mom out to lunch as you sample the goods.  Plan a month’s worth of “Lunches with Mom” as you do your research together. Two palates are better than one.

Photo album. Surprise your mom with a “Life with Mom” mini photo album. Include photos of you and your mom or family at different stages throughout your life to document your journey together in one place.  Follow it up with a mini wedding album for your Mom that includes several photos that would be of great importance to her – you dancing with your Dad, photos of her and your family on your wedding day, etc.

Regardless of what you decide to do for your Mom this Mother’s Day, be sure to include a card that says thanks, for nothing would have been possible without her. Besides, nothing makes Mom weep like a good card.

Our Hats Off to You, Duke & Duchess

Saturday, April 30th, 2011
The only thing better than a Royal wedding, is having a blog on which you can express opinions about the Royal wedding. It was an elegant and, yes, romantic affair, which seemed to go down without a hitch, but for many of us, the most indelible impression we come away with after watching it is, “What’s up with those hats?”

Hats, hats, hats, they were everywhere; in every size, in every shape, every color, stuck to the front of heads, affixed to the sides of heads. Some looked like bird nests, others like the decoration atop a Cake Boss cake. Wide brimmed, no brimmed, and reindeer, courtesy of Sarah Ferguson’s daughter, Princess Beatrice. Even the gents had their hats in the form of top hats. But enough about hats…

Nice touches during the wedding included the bride’s bouquet of Sweet William flowers, albeit a bouquet on the smaller side. And, it was hard to not be impressed with a wedding that included calvary. Calvary! Where do you find one of those for a girl’s wedding?!

Surprisingly moving moments included the two public kisses from the balcony (one more than is standard for Royal weddings), and the bride and groom driving themselves away in an old, sporty car that is likely worth a penny or two.  And, let’s not overlook how moving it was to witness the size and cheering from the crowds that had gathered.  What a great display of country pride that united so many people for a celebration.

But, the most surprising moment of all was seeing how similar Kate Middleton’s earrings are to our Abbott earrings and Clemons earrings! In fact, the similarities between Kate’s and our Abbott earrings were so astounding, that we’ve renamed our Abbott earrings the Middleton earrings in Kate’s honor so brides that want to rent jewelry that looks like Kate’s will know which pair is nearly identical.

For more information on how you can get similar looks as those you saw during the Royal Wedding, watch The Early Show on CBS next Monday, May 2ndAdorn Brides’ real diamond royal jewelry look-alikes will be modeled alongside royal wedding attire knock offs.

Royal Madness Is Upon Us

Tuesday, April 26th, 2011

With the royal wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton finally taking place, Royal Madness is upon us and with it comes talk of anything royal. But, there are two topics related to the royal wedding that are uppermost in royal watchers’ minds – what the bride will be wearing, and the absence of Princess Diana.

Princess Diana, herself, is remembered as a fashion icon whose style embodied grace and elegance. As her absence casts a huge shadow over the celebration, people are taking a look back at her wedding style and choices she made for her own televised wedding to Prince Charles.  The flowing wedding gown with the never ending train is most memorable, but the diamond earrings she wore on her wedding day will be worn this Friday by Princess Diana’s sister, Lady Sarah McCorquodale. What a wonderful way to invoke Diana’s memory and presence into the wedding of her son.

For brides wanting to get a similar look for your own wedding, check out our Clemons marquis diamond earrings, featured here.  Retail valued at over $7,000, we rent jewelry like these 18k white gold, 1.87 total weight diamond earrings for $240. Abbott Earrings Floating Diamond Drop Earrings. Retail value at over $7,000,  rental value $160.00.  Adorn you can be gorgeous and smart with your money!

Diana’s earrings were sent to Kansas City for a Union Station exhibit but then shipped back to England for Friday’s royal wedding.

The hunky Prince William, it was reported, will not be sporting the traditional wedding band worn by husbands

Friday, April 1st, 2011
Yesterday, the world learned that only one wedding ring, the bride’s, will be a part of the marriage ceremony of Prince William and Kate Middleton.  The hunky Prince William, it was reported, will not be sporting the traditional wedding band worn by husbands. Apparently, his father also bucked tradition in the same manner when he married Princess Diana – and we all know how well that turned out.

As one of the most recognizable bachelors, and soon to be husbands, in the world, some are arguing it isn’t necessary for the Prince to wear a wedding band. But, you can’t help but wonder how fiancée Kate felt when the topic first came up among the two lovebirds.  Having your newlywed husband not wear a wedding band would be a deal breaker for most women, but then most men aren’t offering a royal kingdom, and being married to one of the world’s most eligible bachelors, as negotiating tools.

Selecting wedding rings for the bride and groom is an integral part of the ritual of marriage, steeped in tradition. The accessorizing jewelry, itself, is a special component of the wedding ceremony, as Adorn brides will tell you. The wedding rings are part of the dream for many brides and, most likely, a fulfillment of the marriage vows and dream for many men. Why else would so many of today’s grooms be selecting wedding bands with diamonds or more contemporary designs that reflect the character of the groom?

It will be interesting to see if this results in any trends among today’s grooms, but it’s hard to fathom many brides consenting to such an arrangement, although a few future grooms will try. Tiger Woods? Charlie Sheen? There are probably a few men out there that think it sounds like a great idea.

Buy into the idea that glamour can be borrowed

If you’re new to the concept of jewelry rental and checking us out for the first time, be sure to read this well written article in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.  It’s a great overview of the wedding rental industry and the direction it’s headed, and includes some great links for brides.  Consider it a great resource for informing brides how they can upgrade their wedding and downgrade the cost of it all.

JoAnne Klimovich Harrop writes:

There is a way to get luxury and excess in your life for that one special night.

Consider renting that dream designer gown, handbag, accessory or pair of shoes without experiencing the sticker shock of a high-end fashion investment. A number of businesses allow you to unleash your inner celebrity while maintaining fiscal responsibility.

“It works like Netflix for movies,” says Nadine Zaun, co-founder and chief stylist for www.Adorn.com, an online store that rents expensive jewelry. “We rent a lot of jewelry for weddings and love to be able to help a woman add beautiful jewelry to such an important day of her life. And we can also help her get diamonds for a fraction of retail.”

Once Upon A Time

Monday, February 28th, 2011

Sometimes we come across a wedding that is so beautiful, we feel the need to share it with everyone.  In Houston, Texas, under a canopy of soft candle light, Harry and Laurie Klein had such a wedding.

Bringing the Hollywood glamour theme to life, the Magnolia Hotel was decorated with soft feathers and sparkling crystals.  Laurie was picture perfect in her three (yes three!) wedding dresses.  She paired the Lockwood earrings with the Chadwick bracelet to add that red carpet feel.   Like most new husbands, Harry couldn’t keep his eyes off his starlet bride.

Amid a gauntlet of guests waving sparklers, Laurie and Harry rushed to their awaiting white Rolls Royce to take them to their Happily Ever After.

Laurie loved planning her wedding so much, that she has started her own wedding planning business in Houston call Prim and Posh Events.  You can contact her at primandposh@aol.com.

Congratulations Laurie and Harry and thanks for sharing your wedding video with us!

A recent client shares their experience with Adorn Brides

Thursday, February 17th, 2011

At Adorn, we always get excited to hear from a client about their experience with us. We also love to see the beautiful photos! Here is a wonderful testimonial from Tiffany a recent client and fan of Adorn:

My experience with Adorn was AMAZING! I would recommend them to anyone and look forward to renting from them again on my next big occasion. I rented a beautiful bracelet and earrings from Adorn for my wedding day and they both looked fabulous. It was important that I had great accessories because I chose to wear a very simple dress. My style consultant answered all of my questions and even took the time to send pics of the jewelry pictured next to my dress. They have great customer service and made my wedding day very special!

Adorn gets a mention in The New Yorker

Saturday, February 12th, 2011

newyorker

Adorn has been getting a lot of press lately and we wanted to share another great article with you.  As many of you know, there are lots of items that can be rented.  The New Yorker magazine just published an article entitled The Borrowers  - Why buy when you can rent? by Patricia Marx.

Patricia has spent a lot of time visiting local shops in the New York area and online checking out the wares offered by rental companies.  Did you know that in Tokyo you can rent guests to attend your wedding?  It costs about $250 a head…a little extra if you want your new BFF to make a toast!   I personally think that is a little extreme, but hey, whatever works!

Among the many fashion items to rent, Marx talks about Adorn, featuring our Crestwood necklace with six-plus carats worth of yellow princess-cut diamonds.  It retails for $73,500, but rents for only $1,900!

Of course we know how fabulous our jewelry is, but check it out for yourself if you haven’t seen any of the articles or TV shows featuring Adorn.
